Priyanka Chopra in What's Your Raashee?

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra's new movie "What's Your Raashee?"comes out today and the critics seem to like it except for one thing.
It's three and a half hours long.

In the film Priyanka gets a role that would make Jim Carrey or Eddie Murphy proud, she gets to play twelve different characters.

The film is a romantic comedy (the first) from director Ashutosh Gowariker.
He also directed the award winning films Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar.
But to maintain interest for over three hours is quite a feat as a lot of directors have found out the hard way.

The films plot is a Chicagoan (Harman Baweja) returns home to Mumbai and has ten days to find a wife and get his Grandfather's inheritance.
He interviews twelve women (all played by Priyanka) each with a different astrological sign (raashee) and each with their own unique personality which gives Priyanka time to show off her acting abilities.

I understand the length of the movie.
Cutting it down to say 2 hours would have lost a lot of story.
Ashutosh couldn't very well have taken the film and pulled a Quentin Tarantino making "What's Your Raashee" Part 1 and Part 2 ala "Kill Bill".
So I think the movie had to pretty much be made the way it was.

Now, will the audiences feel the same way?

I haven't done this in awhile, so here is a list of the top ten Bollywood actresses on this blog for June.....

1. Amrita Arora
The beautiful Bollywood actress born in Mumbai, India blew away all the competition and came in at number one.
Amrita has three movies in 2009, Kambakth Ishq (with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Aftab Shivdasani) , Team - The Force and Season's Greetings (with Sohail Khan, Tabu and Shreyas Talpade) .

2. Koena Mitra
Number two on the list is Indian actress and former model Koena Mitra.
The Bengali beauty hasn't had many successes in Bollywood lately, with only Ayan coming out this year.

3. Katrina Kaif
Coming in at number three is the Hong Kong-born British-Indian actress and model, Katrina Kaif.
Katrina not only has 2009 releases (New York, Blue, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, De Dana Dan), but even releases planed into 2010 (Rajneeti and a Padosan Remake) .
And she is one of my personal favorites.

4. Twinkle Khanna
Twinkle was very popular in the 90s in Hindi and Telugu films, and now she is an interior designer (she did the interiors for Rani Mukerji's new house) and co-owner of The White Window store.
Her last film was Love Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega in 2001.

5. Rani Mukherjee
Rani Mukerji (Mukherjee) has two movies this year (Luck by Chance and Dil Bole Hadippa) and one set for 2010 ( the animated Koochie Koochie Hota Hain).

6. Deepika Padukone
Deepika was recently diagnosed with malaria after becoming ill during a shoot in London. But she'll get better and shooting on Sajid Nadiadwala's Housefull will continue.

7. Mallika Sherawat
Mallika Sherawat is getting a lot of press for her upcoming movie "Hisss". And a lot of attention on Twitter.

8. Preity Zinta
This honest and outspoken Bollywood beauty has two movies this year, Main Aur Mrs. Khanna and Har Pall.

9. Shilpa Shetty
The Indian film actress and model has two movies coming out this year, The Man and The Desire.

10. Bipasha Basu
Another Bengali beauty with five movies this year, including her first Hollywood movie co-starring with Billy Zane.

Neha Dhupia

“Bollywood Hero,” is an upcoming comedy miniseries for the Independent Film Channel starring Chris Kattan (Corky Romano).
But also in the miniseries will be Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia.
Neha may not be a huge hit in India, but her work ethic has brought praise from her America cast and crew.
Initial viewing of the films trailer by critics has lead to the idea that this just may be a sleeper hit, and that will look very good not only on the career of Chris Kattan but Neha as well.

Neha has several movies coming out in 2009 including "Paying Guest", "Pappu can't dance sala", "Raftaar","Raat gayi baat gayi", "I'm 24" and "De Dhanadhan".

Hopefully good reviews for "Bollywood Hero" will boost Neha's career.

Minissha Lamba News

Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba (born on January 18, 1985 in New Delhi) has two movies coming out this year.
Or she did.
Reports say that Minissha has pulled out of the Karan Johar Production "Jihaad".
At first, reports said that it was because of scenes with co-star Vivek Oberoi.
But now it is said that it was because of passport issues (The film is being shot in New York).
Either way, Dia Mirza who has stepped in to replace her.

It appears filming on "Abba Ka Kaun" is going well though.
The upcoming film has Boman Irani playing the title role of ‘Abba’ and Minissha as his daughter.
It also stars Sameer Dattani, Ravi Kishan, Ila Arun, Salim Ghouse, Sonali Kulkarni, Rajit Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Jhankal.

Riya Sen in Zor Laga ke Haiya

Bollywood actress Riya Sen is getting a lot of press for her new role in the upcoming Hindi film "Zor Laga ke Haiya".
Riya has discarded her sultry glamorous look to take on the role of a construction worker named Chamki.
The movie is directed by Girish Joshi and is about an egotistical award winning sculptor (played by Mithun Chakraborthy) who can not adjust to the times he is living in.
Riya plays a Marathi girl that works as a construction worker.
Besides Riya and Mithun, the movie also stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Seema Biswas, Megan, Ayesha Kaduskar, Hardik Thakkar, Ritvik Tyagi and Ashwin Chitale.
"Zor Laga ke Haiya" will be released sometime in May of this year.

Bollywood Actress Shilpa Shetty News

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty will be marrying her fiance Raj Kumdra in October of this year, but until then, they are renovating a 5 million pound Surrey home at St George's Hill.
Shilpa seems to be getting into the country life, saying that she can't wait to start raising a family there.

The home isn't the only thing Shilpa and Raj co-own.
They are also co-owners of the Rajasthan Royals, a franchise cricket team that represents the state of Rajasthan in the IPL (Indian Premier League).
Last year, the Royals won the inaugural DLF IPL T-20 Tournament.
Of course Shilpa isn't the only Bollywood celeb to invest in the Twenty20 format of the game.
Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Preity Zinta also have interests in the Twenty20 format.

Shilpa also has two movies coming out this year, "The Man" and "The Desire".
